Day 13: May 7, 2016

Destination: Villafranca Montes de Oca

Distance: 12 km

Time: 3 hours, 9:00am to 12:00pm

Terrain: rolling hills, dirt trail, some minor mud, not as much road noise as yesterday.

Weather: it rained last night and this morning but it stopped by the time we stepped outside and cleared a little as we walked.

Total distance to date: 250 km

We had a decent sleep and got up around 7:30 to a rainy day. Packed up a little and went down for breakfast. We asked the hospitalero to call ahead to the hotel we want to book because they aren’t responding to my email but she said they were already full. The Albergue in that town has a bad rep so we decided to stop early today and we booked a room with a shared bathroom in a small hotel.

By 9am we were on the road and lucky for us, the rain had stopped. We had an easy walk for only 3 hours and I was able to keep a better pace so I didn’t have to walk alone as much.  Erik was a bit chilled and wasn’t feeling great but the sun came out and he perked up. We stopped halfway to have a drink and use the baño. Arrived at our destination just before noon.

Unpacked, showered in a small bathroom down the hall and then found a nice big bathroom with a huge shower across the hall. Ah well.

Had the menu del dia at 1pm and then relaxed. 20 euros for a big meal and a bottle of wine. We need to do laundry but there is no place to do it here.

We plan to relax in our room for the rest of the day and go to bed early. We have a hard day tomorrow – 26km with 4 big climbs. Luckily it will be sandwiched between two easy 12km days.

I bet I could make a killing there massaging weary hurting travellers.
Just what you want to hear right now right.
Another day , another victory. Congratulations you two.
